Online Gambling Revenue Hits Near-Record $285.2 Million in June

Michigan’s commercial and tribal internet gaming operators reported combined gross online gambling revenue of $285.2 million in June. This gross online gambling revenue was just below the record of over $300 million set in May 2025, but over 40% more than the total set in June last year. The increase in iGaming and sports betting in Michigan is indicative of a growing consumer trend, and its online casinos and sports betting platforms are evolving to meet consumer demands.

Growth in online gambling and sports betting

Online gambling is attracting larger and more diverse audiences. Michigan online gambling accounted for over $240 million of gross revenue for the month of June, which was up over 30% year-on-year. Commercial online gambling tax payments for the month reached over $47 million. Sports betting revenue was also up in June, with gross revenue of $44.6 million. The handle was $302.7 million, an increase of 9.4%. Tax payments to the state were over $1.8 million.

Monthly adjusted gross receipts

Combined adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for online gambling and online sports betting reached $256.5 million in June. Online gambling contributed $226 million of the total, and online sports betting contributed $30.5 million. This was an over 4% decrease in online gambling AGR and a more than 14% decrease in sports betting AGR compared to May. But year-over-year online gambling AGR saw an increase of over 37%.

Reasons for the continuing online gambling growth in Michigan

What’s happening in Michigan is a reflection of what is taking place all over with the increasing digitalization of traditional sectors. Mobile gambling apps offer convenient and user-friendly gambling experiences. Online gambling platforms utilize advanced algorithms to analyze data, including player behavior. They can then improve player experiences in various ways, such as recommending games and personalizing offers and promotions.

Risks and rewards of growth

The high revenue generated by online gambling operators may result in substantial tax payments for the state, but it also comes with certain challenges. States have to deal with both the risks and rewards of such growth. Regulations must keep up with technological advancements. As revenue grows in the sector, cybercriminals are more attracted.

Consumer financial protection and fraud detection are more important than ever as revenue grows. Online casinos also need robust infrastructure that ensures they are scalable while at the same time prioritizing security and compliance.

Technology plays a major role in ensuring safe and responsible gambling in Michigan. As Michigan continues to shatter online gambling records, the state’s focus is on sustainable growth and maintaining a strong regulatory environment.

Detroit casino revenue

The revenue from the three land-based casinos in Detroit also contributes significantly to Michigan’s economy. The total revenue in June reached $101 million. This was 4.2% more than in June last year. State gaming taxes were $8.1 million, and $11.9 million went to Detroit. Casinos paid over $25 thousand in state retail sports betting tax, and over $30 thousand went to Detroit.
